CHANGE OF PRESIDENCY OF SSE FORUM INTERNATIONAL

CHANGE OF PRESIDENCY OF SSE FORUM INTERNATIONAL

The Board of Directors of SSE Forum International (SSEFI) met on Monday 25 February in Paris to unanimously elect Mrs Elisa Torrenegra (Colombia) and Mr Alain Coheur (Belgium) as co-president of the international organisation SSE Forum International[1]. They succeed Mr. Thierry Jeantet (France), founder and president of the organization since 2004.

Through this two-headed presidency, SSEFI is strengthening its capacity to act and take into consideration the responses provided by the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) to cope with changes in society in both hemispheres. SSE, in its various forms of enterprise, is present in the daily life and productive activity of a lot of regions in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia. It contributes to improving the living and working conditions of millions of people.

This change of presidency was an opportunity for the organization to redefine its priorities and fields of action around three main axes:

  1. Systematic advocacy with international bodies and governments in favour of the promotion and enhancement of the Social and Solidarity Economy;
  2. Sharing experiences, creating partnerships between members and developing joint international concrete projects through the International Agora of the Projects;
  3. Periodic meeting of the leaders of Social and Solidarity Economy enterprises on societal issues.

At the 2018 SSEFI General Assembly, Thierry Jeantet expressed the wish to leave the head of the organisation, considering that “the time had come to do so after 15 years of presidency“. Since the creation of SSEFI, he succeeded in turning this international association into a platform of SSE leaders. Over the years, ESSFI has worked with a significant number of national and international partners in various sectors related to SSE in more than 60 countries on the 5 continents. SSEFI now has 30 member organisations[2] in its network and a database of 4500 partners. The Board of Directors warmly thanked Thierry Jeantet for the work he has done and for his contribution to the development and recognition of SSE.

Today, SSE Forum International is present in many international decision-making bodies[3], such as the International Leading Group on the Social and Solidarity Economy (ILGSSE), the United Nations Task Force Inter-Agency on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE), the Expert Group on the Social Economy and Social Entrepreneurship (GECES) of the European Commission and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). SSEFI has also organized eight Mont Blanc Meetings and has accredited numerous sectoral, regional and international meetings. Finally, the organization has set up an International Agora of the Projects.

To achieve these new strategic orientations, the Board of Directors and the permanent team, composed of competent and committed persons, remain unchanged. All these bodies and the new co-presidency will give a new dynamic to the structure and will open new perspectives for action and membership of ESSFI.
